 About
Us
Rebuilding Together Aurora began
in 1993. The
goal was to become
an affiliate of the national Rebuilding
Together
organization. Rebuilding Together Aurora is
officially recognized by the Internal Revenue
Service as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
What We Do
Once a year, on the last Saturday in April,
skilled and unskilled volunteers alike join
together in a unique one-day “blitz” event
to repair homes in the Aurora community. Since
1993, the year
of our first Rebuilding Day, the Aurora affiliate
of the national organization Rebuilding
Together rehabilitates
and revitalizes the houses of Aurora's low-income
population, particularly the elderly, disabled,
and families with
children.
Our Sponsors, members
of Churches, Civic organizations and local Businesses,
are given the opportunity
to match the skill level of their volunteers with
the work identified in a particular home. All volunteers,
be they
experienced trade professionals or someone
just willing to help,
work side-by-side doing the home improvement
work, such as painting, plumbing, carpentry,
electrical repairs,
drywall repairs, weather-stripping, caulking,
basement clean-up, replacement of locks and
doors, installing handicapped ramps and yard
work, most of which
is well
within the ability of a "handy" man or woman
working with a few other willing volunteers .
